    Myopia Management

If you have myopia, also known as nearsightedness, nearby objects will look clear to you, but distant objects will appear blurry. The eyeball is elongated and stretched when we spend more time examining objects up close in order to compensate for the visual strain. The prescription may be reduced by up to 80% if the individual is treated with an appropriate myopia management strategy.

What is Orthokeratology and How Does It Work?

Orthokeratology is a non-surgical procedure that uses custom-made contact lenses to gradually reform the cornea while you sleep. Your vision is corrected as you sleep when the cells of your cornea slowly regenerate and fit into the contact lens mold. You will have perfect vision when you wake up every morning. This painless procedure corrects mild to moderate nearsightedness and astigmatism by reshaping the curvature of the eye.

    Why Are Kids Good Candidates?

Orthokeratology treatment has been found to reduce the rate of progression in nearsightedness in children. Children under 15 are at especially high risk of developing myopia, but individuals above 15 have a lower rate of myopia progression. Orthokeratology treatment is most effective for kids under 15 because they are the most susceptible to when myopia. If your child is especially accident-prone or their lifestyle doesn’t mesh well with glasses or contact lenses, they may be a great candidate.

    Is Orthokeratology Safe?

Orthokeratology lenses are a safe, completely reversible way to improve your child’s vision. Once you discontinue use of the lenses, their eyes will simply return to their original state without any adverse effects. On top of that, Orthokeratology research has demonstrated that children under the age of 18 are more likely to slow down their nearsightedness by up to 80 percent.

What age can we start Ortho-k?

Orthokeratology can help people of all ages, especially children who have progressive myopia. The average age that people start Orthokeratology treatment to between 8-11 years old. Although teenagers and adults can also benefit from orthokeratology, people under 40 generally have the most success.

    Is Orthokeratology Appropriate For Me?

If your nearsightedness is getting worse every year and you are looking for an alternative to glasses, daytime contact lenses or laser refractive surgery, this is for you! Book a consultation with us to learn more.

    Is Orthokeratology a new treatment?

Orthokeratology has been around for a long time, although it may sound new. In fact, this technology was granted FDA approval in 1994. Research and education conducted in 2000 showed that Orthokeratology could also be used to slow the progression of myopia effectively. Although Orthokeratology is an available treatment, not every clinic has the proper technology or training to recommend orthokeratology. But don’t worry! We have both the necessary technology and staff trained to help you with your Orthokeratology treatment today.

Are there different types of Orthokeratology lenses?

Orthokeratology lenses aren’t all made the same. The type of Orthokeratology lens you receive might vary greatly depending on which clinic you visit. At Strawberry Hill Eye Clinic, we provide patients with an accurate, comfortable fit using a selection of Myopia control lenses, such as Miyosmart and Stellest, and MiSight soft contact lenses by Coopervision.

At the end of January, my vision became blurry so I went for a regular eye check-up at Strawberry Hill Eye Clinic. With the help of their latest machine, Dr. Panesar gave me the diagnosis that I had a tumour in my head. I had an urgent operation to help me and I am now able to view my surroundings much better.
